BOXING 1969 to 1999

THE CHAMPIONS: by brian zelley

Introduction:

To fully understand the history of Boxing Canada, it is important to focus
on the National champions in the senior open category.  One of the
ideal methods is to look at the champions from 1969 to 1999.  There have
been many including a number that have been multi-term champions, but
many that won a title in only one year.

This blog will attempt to review all of the champions and tell a part of their boxing
stories and their boxing journey.  For some there have been extensive stories, but
for many they are just names on a page with little historical documentation.

Some of the boxers over the years:

1969 The Beginning of the Canadian boxing story:

*The first group of champions for the period between 1969 and 1999
would include two-time Olympic boxer Walter Henry from Ontario
and young BC boxer Neil Austin from BC' s Langley Boxing Club.
Another BC boxer would be Pat O'Reilly jr. from the long-time
Hastings Boxing Club of east Vancouver that was formed by coach
Pat O'Reilly sr.

I recently received a news paper article about the fight.
The article wrongly lists me as from Vancouver.
I was living in Fort McMurray, Alberta, then.
It was the 1st year of the Clearwater Boxing Club.
I will attach the article if possible.
    I greatly appreciate your website.
    Thank you,
    Take care,
    Ken
ps I was unable to attach the article.
